Help HPP build a Wellness Garden!
HPP’s new Wellness Garden will provide an essential alternative support service to families, offering a family-friendly place for relaxation and play. The Wellness Garden will have a rich menu of programming for both parents and children and will include activities that have been proven to help counterbalance the high level of stress associated with poverty.
For parents, the Wellness Garden will provide a calming setting for HPP case management and support groups related to substance abuse, domestic violence, child welfare and mental health support. For children, the area will provide guided play with parents, as well as dedicated children’s programming to support child development.
The Wellness Garden will provide:
A restful place for parents and staff to engage together;
A range of age-appropriate child development activities that encourage sensory exploration through playful, interactive installations (musical instruments, reflexology, water fountains, plants to eat, smell and touch, bird feeders, bird baths and art work);
Dynamic play stations that improve motor skills development (climbing structures, manual water pump, bicycle blender, flour mill); and
Opportunities to nurture skills such as problem-solving, cooperation and creativity, while also inspiring interests in gardening, cooking and reading (learning garden, a specially crafted reading nook).
