Starr was living out of her truck with her daughter when she came to HPP. They spent a lot of time outdoors playing to make their hardship seems like an adventure.
Starr came to HPP for help and found it. Starr and her daughter have settled into an apartment, and her daughter is enjoying her new school.

“I know for a fact that this season in my life would have been very different had it not been for HPP. I am and will always be grateful.”
Starr’s experience was eye-opening for her and, together with a new lease on life, she has a newfound interest in helping other women overcome their obstacles with dignity. Says Starr, “no woman deserves to feel dehumanized at a time when she is most vulnerable in her life: learning to navigate through motherhood.”
We couldn’t agree more, which is why – with your support – HPP has been offering nonjudgmental family services to low-income and homeless families for over 25 years. We recognize that all families face challenges and that all families want what’s best for their children.
Last year, of the 4,000 families receiving services at HPP, over 50% identified as homeless. Eighty percent of clients identified housing as a critical need and described their current situation as unstable, inadequate or unsafe.
With over two decades of experience and an innovative, multifaceted menu of services to benefit low-income and homeless families, HPP continues to lead among service agencies in our community. Much of HPP’s success is due to its inventive, effective approach to service delivery: over half of HPP staff of 80 are former clients, and their expertise has driven programming since day one. Who better to share what families in crisis need than women who have overcome their own obstacles?
I hope you will consider an investment in HPP this holiday season. Your gift will provide the resources necessary to ensure that all families have access to HPP’s life-changing, supportive services, from housing assistance and job training to emergency diapers. Your partnership makes a real and tangible difference in the lives of thousands of families annually.
